WELL VISITS AND PHYSICALS

We provide our patients with comprehensive medical care to help promote long-term health and wellness. This begins with performing complete physical wellness exams, otherwise known as an annual check-up appointment. We understand that people have more options available than ever before when it comes to seeking out medical care and advice.

There is incredible value in developing a sustained partnership with your primary

care physician and their trained medical team over the years. Undergoing annual complete physical wellness exams allows our patients to keep track of the status of their health and wellbeing and address any health conditions or illnesses before they become serious.

Complete physical wellness exams are done in our office and includes the following preventive care services that are recommended for sustaining a healthy lifestyle:

  • Measuring vital signs like blood pressure, height, weight, and body mass index (BMI)
  • A physical exam performed by an MD, NP, or PA
  • An assessment of your past medical history and surgical history
  • A discussion of your family history of illness and health conditions
  • A comprehensive review of your social and work history
  • An evaluation of your current level of physical activity and goals for improving overall health
  • An assessment of your immunization history and recommendations for upcoming immunizations
  • Screenings for depression and alcohol misuse

It’s so important to take a proactive approach to wellness and undergoing annual complete physical wellness exams is an excellent way to keep tabs on your health. For more information or to schedule your complete physical wellness exam, please contact us today.

Immunizations

Immunizations are small amounts of weakened or killed virus/bacteria or a lab-made protein that imitate a virus that are injected into patients in order to prevent that same virus/bacteria. When you get a vaccine, you are being injected with a weakened form or small amount of a disease. This triggers your body’s immune response, causing it to produce antibodies to fight that virus or it will induce other processes that help your immune system. Going forward, your body will either be prepared to fight that same disease in the future or the vaccines will reduce its severity. Mitchell County Pediatrics and Health Center provides a wide array of adult and childhood immunizations, including annual flu shots, are available.

Many schools and daycares require proof of immunization, and aside from that fact, it is very important to keep your children up-to-date on vaccines. Protecting children from disease and serious problems is paramount. The recommended vaccines for children from birth to the age of 6 include:

• Tetanus

• Poliovirus

• Rotavirus

• Hepatitis

• Hepatitis B

• Pneumococcal

• Measles

• Mumps

• Rubella

• Varicella

• Diphtheria

• Meningococcal

• Pertussis

• Haemophilus influenzae type B

Thanks to immunizations, these diseases are at their lowest levels in decades. At Mitchell County Pediatrics and Health Center, we strongly encourage proper immunization. If you have any questions or concerns about vaccines, give us a call. To learn more about vaccines, please visit the CDC’s website.

Acute Illnesses/Injuries

Acute illnesses usually develop quickly and last a short amount of time . Examples of acute illnesses include:

• Asthma attacks

• Bronchitis

• Burns

• Common Cold

• Flu

• Heart attacks

• Pneumonia

• Strep Throat

• Respiratory infections

• Broken bones

These conditions generally come on rapidly but will improve after urgent or short-term care is provided. In some cases, as with the common cold, symptoms will improve on their own. The recovery time is usually pretty quick. Self-management can go a long way toward preventing acute diseases from occurring, but if they are unavoidable and severe, seek medical attention as quickly as possible.

Acute injuries are of sudden onset, caused by high-intensity forces, and of short duration, such as sprains, strains, and contusions.

Nutrition & Weight Loss

The healthcare providers here at Mitchell County Pediatrics and Health Center are passionate about comprehensive wellness for the body and mind. Our weight management services are designed to help our patients make sustainable and meaningful lifestyle adjustments to help control their weight in the short and long-term. Teens go through many physical and mental changes as they mature, and they can sometimes participate in risky behaviors or develop unhealthy habits. Our team is here to offer a safe place that supports teens’ health and well-being. That’s why Mitchell County Pediatrics and Health Center offers comprehensive adolescent care to the community.

Adolescent care is highly personalized to meet your child’s unique set of needs.  Adolescent medicine focuses on the care of patients who are in the adolescent period of development, so from when puberty begins until your child has stopped growing and reaches adulthood. During this time, it is important for your teen and young adult to continue to see a pediatric-trained physician, as they are specialists in growing and developing bodies and sensitive to the physical, emotional and mental changes kids are experiencing during this time.
